Mulberry at London Fashion Week 2012

One of my favourite luxury handbag companies have done it again. They served up a spectacular monster themed catwalk show at London Fashion Week, crammed full of vibrant textures – plenty of fur, lace and knits. Not to forget the  mouth-watering new collection of handbags Mulberry sp kindly had in store for us.

Next season, aside from dark and mysterious shades of navy, brown and grey, we will see the launch of the Del Rey bag, inspired by American Singer Lana Del Rey. This ladylike tote is instantly a Mulberry classic, think structured briefcase combined with simple ladylike elegance, complete with miniature luggage tag and signature lock, the bag oozes all the quintessential British charm we’ve come to expect from the brand. Despite this, it’s come under fire for being a little, well, boring. And it’s hard because I see that point too. It’s a lovely little design, classical for sure, but there’s not too much going on if you like your bags a bit fiesty.

And what about colour? Yes, tangerine is still very much the shade on everyone’s lips. Bright lashings of it adorned the catwalk among the darker and sultrier winter shades. We loved the tribal revival too, embellished bags, and zig zag prints across the Alexia and Lily broke up the chunkier swathes of colour, so expect plenty of beading and thick, textured chain straps on some of your favourite designs.

I think Mulberry were one of the biggest winners from London Fashion Week, and as excited as I am for summer colours (and, fingers crossed summer weather) Mulberry have reminded me that winter isn’t all bad.
