Alexander McQueen De Manta Clutch, What’s Your Verdict?

I know I’m supposed to love the De Manta clutch, after all oversized clutches are the hottest bags this season, and my terribly scratched up patent one really needs replacing. But I just can’t bring myself to. There’s something quite Batmobile-esqe about the shape that doesn’t visually please me and I’m not overly excited about the choice of print or style either.

Alexander McQueen‘s designs vary for me. Kate Middleton’s royal wedding gown? Yes, thumbs up. I love that elegant vintage feel incorporated into modern designs. And the Skull Box Clutches are another favourite. That charming Parisian princess shape combined with bold and unusual skins, what’s not to love? Although it has to be said, I could probably do with going without the skull clasp (call me a prude, it’s fine).

If I’m going to jump in face first to the De Manta I’d go with that sofy dewy apricot tone. It’s pastel, so therefore on trend, and could probably get away with being feminine, but I’m just too scared and am clinging on to my favourite clutches (Anya Hindmarch and Tory Burch) because I know they’re safe choices.

Am I being a fashion wimp? Are these the most to-be-seen-with clutches this season? I don’t know either way. What I do know is that they don’t work with my own personal style. But that doesn’t mean they won’t look fantastic on you. When a new trend pops up it’s so important to visualise if it’ll collaborate with your wardrobe, and your personality, and sadly the De Manta would look stubbornly out of place in mine, which just wouldn’t do it justice. Team it with leather leggings and a pair of patent stilettos for a killer evening look that will scream powerful and sexy.
