Unlike light, flimsy summer bags, it takes time to decide on the ideal winter handbag. Not only does it need to be bigger than your summer bag to fit in spare shoes, an umbrella and all sorts of extra layers for when the temperatures drop, it should also be waterproof and a bolder, more autumnal colour to fit the season.

Leather is the obvious choice for a winter bag as it is easy to clean and will protect your treasures from getting wet. Alternatively, there are some super practical yet stylish canvas bags out there that will also fit the bill if you are on a lower budget.
