When people think of Mulberry, more often than not they’ll think of the classic Bayswater, or perhaps even the Alexa which has become incredibly popular over the past few years. BagServant was greeted by surprise by our nearest and dearest handbag fans, however, when the first chunk of Mulberrry-shaped British heritage we chose to invest in, was the Mulberry Oversized Taylor.

Handbag Experience 

We were drawn to the Mulberry Oversized Taylor for two main reasons: it had all the great things that the Bayswater and Alexa boast – soft as butter leather, a classic look and tons of storage, and secondly: it isn’t the Bayswater or the Alexa. With so many knock-offs and imitation bags, and even with so many people wearing the real deal, it’s great to have something a bit different to wear day after day. With it’s smaller handle it is ideal to wear in the crook of your arm, but it’s great that it also has a detachable long strap so the bag can be worn over your shoulder if needed. So practical.

Ultimately, the best thing about the bag, is how it just gets better and better with age. We’ve had it for nine months now and when we see it on display at departments stores, we realise just how much our bag looks loved, more slouchy and with a vintage look. That’s what you get when you buy leather, ladies!

When and where is it perfect for? 

Stylish enough for meetings and events, but big enough for notebooks, diary, phones and press samples, as well as all the commuting essentials: iPad, book, makeup, the list goes on! Boardroom Perfectionists will love it.  This bag is such a tardis of the fashion world, as soon as we think it’s full there’s room for more. Confident Classiques and Vintage Queens will also adore this the Mulberry Oversized Taylor handbag.

 Interior

As mentioned, this bag is huge inside, with one large compartment that literally fits everything. There is also a very handy small zipped compartment to keep anything small and valuable. The large compartment closes with a large gold zip, which ensures that your bits and bobs are safely shut away. There is a second smaller compartment at the back of the bag that can only be described as a large pocket, which has a magnetised clasp fastening. It’s perfect for when you’re on the go and just need to pop something in your bag and you don’t have time to fiddle with the big zip.

Material

The material is top quality, softest leather. It’s so soft that it may take you a fair while to stop worrying about it getting damaged and marking. But fear not, it’s soft, but this bag is made of strong stuff. The hardware is gold and is still shiny even after nine months and it’s never been polished once! But buyer beware, the oval Mulberry seal is top quality soft gold, but thankfully Mulberry offer a replacement service for a very reasonable cost.

Best colour to pick 

The bag has come out in various sizes, shapes and colours since it was released, with the obvious choice for practicality being the black. The deer leather is cute but perhaps a little to pale, and we prefer a more robust tan or oak when it comes to leather bags. You can’t go wrong with black, though!

We believe you get what you pay for when it comes to Mulberry handbags, as they’re manufactured in the UK they’re made of top quality materials from top to bottom. We ADORE this bag.
