Jo Orgill - The Bag Interview

Coach at Jo Orgill Coaching

What does the bag you carry say about you?

I like fairly ‘clean’ looking bags with smooth lines. I’m not a fan of buckles and tassels and too many bits. Although I do like sparkle! I prefer the bag to be simple and good looking in its own right; bright colours are popular with me too. I guess this reflects my personality, my clothes, my home and my approach to life. I like handy pockets with zips (not too many though!) to stay organised - I like to everything to have a place and be in it! I like things that make a statement and I always strive for quality and a simple elegance in what I do. Why waffle when you can be clear? Why have a beige bag and blend into the crowd when you can have a great looking purple one instead? In life I strive to be the purple bag.

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic ... city ..... with a splash of bright colour

What features are important to you when buying a bag?

That it closes tightly shut, so that things don’t fall out when it is dropped or knocked over! It can be very embarrassing when your personal items start rolling across the floor. And yes, this has happened to me several times!

What do you tend to carry in your handbag?

Money, phone, tissues, my favourite lipstick that goes with everything, headache tablets, and a beautiful red Spanish fan. I also carry round the gorgeous art deco business card holder a fabulous friend gave to me as a present. And if there is still room, an umbrella - my insurance against it raining.

What bag would you love to get as a special gift?

For pure frivolous luxury I would love to have the: Red Valorie Evening Clutch by Anya Hindmarch - My Wardrobe - £350. My shopping bag is looking jaded, I’d love this pretty one to replace it: Cath Kidston English Rose Book Bag - Cath Kidston - £16.

My favourite day bag is a large purple bag, somewhere between a leather and patent leather finish. I can fit everything in it, even work files and folders. The colour is great because it doesn’t match anything yet at the same time goes with everything!

I love my simple black clutch evening bag with a sparkly shoulder strap, giving me a hands free option. I always look for some sparkle on an evening bag. This bag is perfect for any type of evening out.

Stylish, practical and a gorgeous colour (as an Argentine tango dancer I love red). I’m lusting after this bag. Perfect with jeans, a suit and going out for dinner. It looks like the kind of bag that would make you feel fabulous.
